Does alcohol curb sex drive? Do you know what it does to your blood and liver? For better or worse, get the facts here.
According to a study done by Dr. Serge Renaud, whose findings appeared in the journal Epidemiology, wine if consumes in moderate amount of about two to three glasses a day (or 20 grams to 30 grams) can reduce chances of coronary heart disease by at least 40%. This is because alcohol acts on the platelets in the blood to prevent clotting.
Here are 2 suggestions that you can stay healthy and enjoy your daily glass of wine:
(1) Exercise before drinking. This is because exercise improves blood circulation and facilitates faster absorption of wine in your body system.
(2) Never drink with an empty stomach because this can get you drunk faster.
How about the effects of alcohol on sex? Let’s split the answer into two parts:
(a) Short term sexual effects of alcohol
(b) Long term sexual effects of alcohol
Short term sexual effects of alcohol
(1) Alcohol has this disarming effect, helps people to loosen up and feeling more comfortable when making love.
(2) Small amount of alcohol may make you feel more socially confident in interacting and socializing with the opposite sex.
(3) Moderate amount of alcohol may have a positive impact on sexual desire and arousal for some people.
(4) In large amount alcohol can blunt your sexual response leading to a reduction in sexual arousal, difficulty in experiencing orgasm and getting erections.
Long term sexual effects of alcohol
Chronic alcohol abuse or alcoholism has a damaging effect on sexual performance including erectile dysfunction in men, loss of sex drive, and decrease in sexual arousal and difficulty in experiencing orgasm.
High alcohol consumption of over 4 glass of wine per day (or more than 2 bottles of beer a day) can overwork your liver and kidneys as they try to clean up your body system. In the long run, they can cause liver or kidney failure.
Are these negative sexual effects of alcohol reversible?
A study which involved over 17,000 men who used to be alcoholics found that half of them return to normal erectile function after they stop drinking after several years while the other half were either partially or still unable to get erection even with the return of sexual desire. This could be due to chronic illness they have such as hypertension and diabetes because the medication for them could have the side effects of curbing sex drive.
Therefore watch out for the alcohol content of all your drinks and for those with high alcohol content such as whisky or Scotch, only one glass per day is enough. If you want to know more about sexuality matters, go to Sexual Health Tips or Sexual Well Being Guide
